A Guide to Using the Microsoft Snipping Tool

To open the Snipping Tool, click on the Start button in the lower-left corner of your screen. In the search box, type 'Snipping Tool'. Click on the application's name that appears in the search results.

Once you've opened the Snipping Tool, you can capture a screenshot by following a few simple steps. Click on the 'New' button to start a new snip. At this point, your screen will fade, and you can draw a shape around the area you want to capture by clicking and dragging your cursor. Once you release the mouse button, the screenshot will automatically open in the Snipping Tool.

There are four different types of Snip you can choose from: Free-form Snip, Rectangular Snip, Window Snip, and Full-screen Snip. The Free-form Snip lets you draw any shape around an object. The Rectangular Snip allows you to take a screenshot in a rectangular shape, while the Window Snip enables you to take a screenshot of a specific window only. The Full-screen Snip captures the entire screen.

After capturing the screenshot, you can use the Snipping Tool's marker and eraser to annotate your screenshot. The Snipping tool also allows you to save the screenshot in various formats like PNG, GIF, JPEG, or even HTML. If you want to share the screenshot, you can email it directly from the Snipping Tool by clicking on the 'Send Snip' button.

The Snipping Tool also provides a delay feature which can be set to take screenshots at a delay of 1 to 5 seconds. This feature is particularly useful when you need to capture screenshots of drop-down menus or tooltips which disappear when you click elsewhere on the screen.

In conclusion, the Snipping Tool is a powerful yet simple-to-use application for taking screenshots on Windows.
