For home users, that means a better chance of getting back to a usable desktop without immediately reinstalling Windows. For IT teams, it introduces a recovery parachute that opens before the help desk ticket is written — but it also deserves planning, storage checks, and policy review before Windows 11 26H2 reaches broad deployment.

What Point-in-Time Restore changes

Point-in-Time Restore is designed to capture a recent system state and let Windows roll back to it when something goes wrong. The concept will feel familiar to anyone who has used classic System Restore, but the new approach is broader and more automatic. Windows Latest reports that Microsoft describes the feature as enabled by default starting with Windows 11 version 26H2.

The practical value is straightforward: if a PC becomes unstable after a bad driver, problematic app installation, failed update, or misconfiguration, the user or technician may be able to return the device to a recent healthy state.
