Microsoft is trying to change the conversation around Windows 11 performance. According to Windows Latest, Marcus Ash, Microsoft’s design and research lead for Windows and Devices, told Windows Insider participants that testers can already “feel” responsiveness improvements in experimental Windows 11 builds, with more changes expected as the fall release cycle progresses.

For IT teams and Windows enthusiasts, the important takeaway is not that every PC will suddenly feel brand new overnight. The more practical message is that Microsoft appears to be targeting the daily friction points users notice most: File Explorer responsiveness, Start menu and taskbar behavior, context menu clutter, and the slow feedback loop between Insider comments and shipped changes. In other words, treat the fall wave as a measured reliability and responsiveness update rather than a single headline feature drop.

What Microsoft appears to be improving

The Windows Latest report highlights several areas that have been visible in Insider builds. File Explorer is a major focus, with testers describing faster loading and a more immediate feel. That matters because Explorer is not just a file browser; it is part of the everyday shell experience for administrators, office users, developers, and power users. Microsoft has also been working on the Windows 11 context menu. A more open feedback model would help

Ash reportedly said Microsoft wants to group similar feedback and give users a clearer view of what the company is considering or actively working on.
