According to a report by The Hacker News, the new credit card skimmer is dubbed Pipka. The name Pipka was given by the security researchers at Visa's cybersecurity division who discovered it. This skimmer is distinguished by its ability to remove itself from the HTML of a compromised website after it has executed, making detection and tracking particularly challenging.

This type of digital threat is not new; credit card skimmers have been around for several years. These malicious scripts are typically injected into e-commerce websites and siphon off credit card data every time an unsuspecting customer completes a transaction. However, Pipka's ability to disappear after execution brings a new level of sophistication to this type of cybercrime.

The first known attack by Pipka was identified on an e-commerce website from which the skimmer successfully stole credit card data. Since then, Visa's cybersecurity division has found Pipka on at least sixteen more merchant websites. This indicates that the skimmer is actively being used in widespread cyberattacks.

Pipka's configuration enables it to steal a vast array of data, including credit card numbers, expiry dates, cardholder names, and even the CVV. The stolen data is then sent to a server controlled by the cybercriminals, who can use the information for nefarious purposes.
