The researchers have identified around 219 million MQTT messages and 19 million COAP messages that were leaked due to misconfigurations. These messages contained sensitive information that could potentially be used by hackers to gain unauthorized access to systems.
Moreover, the researchers also discovered a significant increase in the number of MQTT and COAP services exposed on the internet, rising by 55% and 62% respectively, in 2020. This indicates a growing risk of potential attacks.
