Microsoft Announces Enhanced Security Measures for Partner Ecosystem Including MFA Enforcement and Deletion of Unused Azure Subscriptions

As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure partner ecosystem, we are pleased to announce several important updates and capabilities designed to enhance your security posture and protect your customers' tenants. These updates are relevant to direct bill partners, indirect providers, and indirect resellers transacting through the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program, as well as advisors.

Starting from October 2024, Microsoft will be enforcing multifactor authentication (MFA) for all users signing into the Azure portal. This is a crucial step in ensuring the security of user accounts and protecting against unauthorized access. We encourage all partners to review the latest information and timeline to ensure they are prepared for this change.

In addition, beginning in November 2024, Microsoft will start blocking and eventually deleting unused Azure subscriptions. A subscription will be considered unused if there has been no activity or consumption for more than 12 months. This measure is designed to streamline the Azure environment and eliminate potential security risks associated with inactive accounts. Account owners and service admins will be notified 30 days before the block is applied, and the subscription will be deleted 90 days after the block. We are also excited to announce the upcoming release of the Security Requirements API. This new feature will provide partners with direct access to essential security compliance data, helping to further enhance security measures. A beta version of the Security Requirements API is currently available for preview.
