At Qloud Blog, we're always excited to share the latest developments in the tech world, especially when it comes to Microsoft's innovative solutions. Today, we're thrilled to announce the introduction of Town halls in Microsoft Teams, a new virtual event experience that is set to replace Teams Live Events.
Town halls, which will be generally available starting October 5, 2023, are designed to host and deliver large-scale, internal events, fostering connections across an organization. This new feature provides a one-to-many format with advanced production capabilities and a structured approach for attendee engagement.
With Town halls, customers can host a variety of internal and external events, including company-wide Town halls, all hands meetings, global team meetings, internal broadcasts, fireside chats, and more. This feature enables customers to extend their reach, scale their message, and connect with audiences around the world. It also allows for the creation of professionally produced, studio-quality events that deliver a more dynamic experience. Furthermore, it provides a structured and managed audience engagement to maximize participation and maintain focus on the event.
However, with the introduction of Town halls, Microsoft has announced the retirement of Teams Live Events. Commercial customers will have until September 30, 2024, to prepare for this transition. During this 12-month window, customers can continue to use Teams Live Events as usual. After the retirement date, Teams Live Events will no longer be supported, and access will be discontinued.
As for licensing requirements, anyone with Microsoft 365 and Office 365 E1/E3/E5/A3/A5 can create Town halls with basic functionality if they have access to Teams. However, to access advanced functionality within Town halls, meeting organizers must have a Teams Premium license.
We encourage you to start sharing the news about Town halls coming to Teams and the plans for retiring Teams Live Events with your customers to prepare them for the transition.
