As a trusted partner in the digital ecosystem, we at Qloud Blog are committed to keeping you updated on the latest developments and improvements in the security landscape. In this month's update, we bring you important actions that our partners need to take to secure the partner ecosystem, as announced by Microsoft.
Microsoft has made significant strides in enhancing security capabilities and protecting customer tenants. One such milestone is the transition from Delegated Admin Privileges (DAP) to Granular Delegated Admin Privileges (GDAP). Microsoft has completed the creation of GDAP relationships and has begun the process of DAP removal. Partners are encouraged to validate the newly created GDAP relationship and create a new GDAP relationship with the necessary Microsoft Entra roles if additional roles are required to manage customers.
In addition, Microsoft has made the Default GDAP available for creating new customers. Partners must now explicitly grant granular permissions to security groups in the Default GDAP. It's important to note that DAP is no longer available with reseller relationships. However, the updated Request Reseller Relationship link will continue to be available in the Partner Center UI and the API contract "/v1/customers/relationship requests" property URL will continue to return the invitation URL to be sent to the admin of the customer tenant.
Microsoft has also made the bulk migration tool available until the end of November 2023. Partners can continue to create and apply GDAP templates in Microsoft 365 Lighthouse beyond this date, and a consent link will be generated to provide to customers.
Partners are advised to continue requesting GDAP if admin access is required for a customer tenant and disabling DAP if DAP relationships are no longer required. The person with the admin agent role within the partner organization should review the DAP monitoring report and disable DAP relationships immediately. It is also crucial to ensure that their app is consented to in the customer tenant.
In terms of new features, partners can now add or edit custom Domain Name System records in the Microsoft Admin Center. Furthermore, starting October 30, 2023, partners will be able to auto extend new or existing GDAPs by 6 months with the GDAP auto extend feature.
As we navigate the evolving threat landscape, it is essential to strengthen your security posture. Microsoft offers a range of cybersecurity tools and resources to assist in this endeavor. We recommend signing up for dedicated CSP Security Q&A sessions to have your queries answered by subject matter experts. You can also find guidance and resources in securing the partner and customer ecosystems in the partner readiness gallery.
