In a bid to enhance the quality of customer account data, Microsoft is introducing new validation checks in the Customers workspace. This move is aimed at ensuring the accuracy of customer information provided. The changes, which will be implemented from December 6, 2023, will affect both new and existing customer accounts created in the Partner Center portal and via API.
This development is particularly significant for participants in the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program who are either indirect providers or direct bill partners. CSP partners who utilize this experience will notice these data quality changes in effect from December 6, 2023. It's important to note that Manage customers APIs will continue to accept previous contract values through December 5, 2023.
The data quality rules will be applied to all new customer accounts upon creation. When a partner updates the customer name or billing profile details, the customer account will be revetted. This revetting process typically takes three days or less. During this period, new purchases on behalf of the customer will be suspended. Purchasing on behalf of your customer can be resumed upon successful verification.
Some of the key validation changes include restrictions on the use of placeholder terms such as 'admin/administrator', 'test/tester', 'developer', 'N/A', or 'none' in the customer first and last name fields. Additionally, the length of name fields can't exceed 40 characters. For organization or company names, the name can't exceed 220 characters and domain extensions shouldn't be included in the organization's name.
For a more detailed understanding of these data validation rules, Microsoft Learn Partner Center documentation provides comprehensive information. This includes guides on how to validate company names, customer names, and e-mail addresses, and how to add a new customer record. Information on registration identification numbers is also available, although it's not a mandatory requirement for all regions.
For organizations that use Partner Center developer resources, the updated Manage customers API documentation is a valuable resource. Microsoft encourages users to utilize these enhanced data validation features and share feedback to help improve the user experience.
To learn more about these changes, Microsoft is offering a CSP Technical Training session in November. We at Qloud Blog recommend that you register for this session to stay updated with these enhancements and ensure the quality of your customer account data.
