In a recent announcement from Microsoft, the tech giant has revealed that it will be disabling Office 365 E2 subscriptions that have been incorrectly renewed. This comes after the final discontinuation of the legacy Office 365 E2 grant offer by Tech for Social Impact (TSI), a part of Microsoft Philanthropies, on April 3, 2023.
The discontinuation was initially announced through the Web Direct channel, but due to a technical glitch in the offer catalog system, subscriptions of the discontinued Office 365 E2 offer have been auto-renewing incorrectly. In response to this issue, Microsoft has decided to disable any Office 365 E2 subscriptions that have been renewed in error.
It's important to note that Microsoft had already discontinued the legacy plan back in 2013, and this plan will no longer be supported. However, the discontinuation of Office 365 E2 will not impact any plans currently available in Microsoft's nonprofit offer catalog. These include 10 granted licenses of Microsoft 365 Business Premium, 300 granted licenses of Microsoft 365 Business Basic, and up to 2000 granted licenses of Office 365 E1 via Enterprise Agreement. Microsoft will continue to offer discounts to nonprofits of up to 75 percent on many Microsoft 365 products.
For customers who are subscribed to this legacy offer, they will have the opportunity to renew into the Office 365 E1 plan at the next renewal on or after October 1, 2023. This plan is priced at USD $2.50 per user per month. Alternatively, customers can transition up to 300 of their users from the legacy Office 365 E2 nonprofit grant to the Microsoft 365 Business Basic nonprofit grant. They can also access up to 2000 granted Office 365 E1 licenses through an Enterprise Agreement.
Microsoft has sent notifications directly to the Global Admins and Billing Admins on April 3, 2023, and posted through the Tenant Admin Center Alerts. If any nonprofit customers have questions about this outreach from TSI, they are advised to contact the Nonprofit Support team for further assistance.
As a part of the Qloud Blog community, we encourage you to engage with your customers and support them in making the right decision on what to do and supply the grant or discounted licenses that they need to replace the Office 365 E2 grant licenses.
