Microsoft has recently announced important updates to the public sector launch in new commerce. The updates concern the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) legacy Public Sector offers, including the Government Community Cloud, education, and nonprofit. The timeline for these offers has been revised, with the launch now scheduled to take place across four waves beginning on March 1, 2024.
The revised launch dates are as follows: Wave 1 and Wave 2 will both commence on February 1, 2024, and will be available in new commerce from March 1, 2024. Wave 3 will begin on March 1, 2024, and will be available in new commerce from April 1, 2024. Finally, Wave 4 will start on April 1, 2024, and will be available in new commerce from May 1, 2024.
It's important to note that while these offers will appear on the catalog and price lists, the ability to purchase won't be available until March 1, 2024. Partners will receive an error message if they attempt to purchase public sector subscriptions in new commerce before they're available to purchase.
There are currently no changes to later public sector milestones previously communicated by Microsoft. As of May 1, 2024, new subscription purchases for available public sector product SKUs must be on new commerce. From July 1, 2024, Microsoft will begin migrations from legacy to new commerce.
In addition to these updates, Microsoft has also announced that donation product SKUs for nonprofits will be available to purchase on March 1, 2024. These include Microsoft 365 Business Premium and Power Apps Per App, both free up to 10 seats.
As a next step, Microsoft advises partners to share this information with all appropriate contacts in their organization and to review the new commerce license-based price list in the Partner Center Pricing workspace to find the offers included each month.
