In a recent announcement, Microsoft revealed plans to expand the licensing requirements for Copilot for Microsoft 365. This expansion will now include Microsoft 365 F1, Microsoft 365 F3, Office 365 E1, Microsoft 365 Business Basic, and more. This change is expected to take place in the coming weeks and will impact all Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partners transacting Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365.
Previously, the licensing requirements for Copilot for Microsoft 365 required customers to own a prerequisite license of Microsoft 365 E3/5, Office 365 E3/5, or Microsoft 365 Business Standard/Business Premium for each Copilot user. This expansion aims to make Copilot for Microsoft 365 accessible to a wider range of businesses, including those with frontline worker plans.
Microsoft's goal with this expansion is to empower every organization to become AI-powered. Customers that have Microsoft 365 F3 and F1, Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Office 365 E1, and more will be eligible to purchase Copilot for Microsoft 365 in the coming weeks.
This expansion also covers Copilot for Service and Copilot for Sales, both of which have been generally available for the CSP channel since March 1, 2024.
Additional details and a complete list of eligible SKUs will be available on the Partner Center Learn site. For more information about the prerequisites expansion, including timing updates, Microsoft has directed users to the Expansion of Microsoft 365 Copilot Eligibility blog.
