As part of our monthly update, we at Qloud Blog are excited to share some important actions that Microsoft partners need to take to secure the partner ecosystem. These actions are in response to the latest capabilities and updates from Microsoft, designed to improve your security posture and protect your customers' tenants.
Last November, Microsoft announced the Secure Future Initiative (SFI), a comprehensive strategy to combat the increasing scale and sophistication of cyberattacks. The initiative aims to advance cybersecurity protection across new products and legacy infrastructures. Microsoft's commitment to security is evident in their statement, "We're making security our top priority at Microsoft, above all else - over all other features."
In line with this commitment, Microsoft is implementing immediate and future changes that may affect some of our partners. These changes may come with little notice, and partners may need to act quickly to close security vulnerabilities.
One of the significant changes is the implementation of Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for all Azure users starting from July 2024. This move is a crucial step in enhancing the security of user accounts and protecting against unauthorized access.
Microsoft has also introduced the Security workspace in Partner Center. This workspace allows your company's Admin Agent to evaluate your security situation and take necessary actions to enhance your security posture. It serves as a single place for all security-related matters in Partner Center, making the user experience easier and providing learning resources.
Partners can now view the details of expired global delegated access permissions (GDAPs) in the “Expiring Granular Relationships” page. This feature allows partners to create new GDAP relationships with the customer if necessary.
Looking ahead, Microsoft will release a newer version of the Security Alert API on July 31, 2024. This new API will provide a unified API gateway across Microsoft services. CSP partners must start to use this new API, as the existing Azure fraud notification API will be deprecated by the end of 2024.
Starting June 16, 2024, CSP partners will no longer receive separate email notifications for each GDAP that has expired or is about to expire. Instead, you'll receive summary email notifications every 15 days with a link to the “Expiring Granular Relationships” dashboard.
As a reminder, Microsoft-led GDAPs don't activate the auto-extend feature by default. Partners need to turn on auto-extend for these GDAP relationships as required.
