Microsoft Announces Update to Improve Invoice Collection API Performance

Starting from August 1, 2024, the invoice collection API will apply a default filter to limit the invoice list to the last 18 months. This is a significant change from the current setup where the API returns all the invoices available in the Partner Center. Microsoft has identified that retrieving all invoices can cause higher latency and failure during data transfer, which has prompted this change.

However, this does not mean that older invoices will become inaccessible. Users can still access invoices older than 18 months by simply changing the filter parameters in the API request. This allows for flexibility and ensures that no data is lost or becomes unreachable.

This change is expected to enhance the API response time, reduce the data transfer volume, and overall, make the API more efficient. For users, this means a smoother, faster, and more reliable experience when using the API.

The change will come into effect on August 1, 2024. Post this date, if you use the invoice collection API without any filter parameters, you will only see the invoices that are less than 18 months old. For instance, if you use the API on August 8, 2024, you will see the invoices for the billing periods from February 2023 to July 2024.

To view older invoices, you will need to specify the filter parameters in the API request. More information on how to use these parameters can be found in the invoice collection API documentation.

The new default filter is expected to bring several benefits, including faster API response time due to fewer invoices being returned, and lower data transfer costs due to less data being transferred.

As next steps, we recommend reviewing the invoice collection API documentation and familiarizing yourself with the filter parameters. If you need to access older invoices, update your API requests and scripts to include the filter parameters. It's also advisable to test your API requests and scripts before August 1, 2024, to ensure they work as expected.
